The U.S. Bureau of Land Management wants to be a landlord to more solar energy development in Utah and across the West, but it has a few rules:• Keep the panels off the hillsides to avoid erosion and visual blight.• Keep them near existing or planned power lines to avoid building new ones.• Keep the cows away. The BLM, which manages 42% of Utah land, has put out itsdraft environmental impact statement for utility scale solar development, and its preferred choice would make 3.8 million acres in the state available for solar farms. The draft is open for public comment until April 18.The federal agency looked at five alternatives for its “programmatic” EIS, which is intended to identify areas across 11 Western states where permitting and leasing for solar power plants could be expedited. Any individual project still would need to go through a separate approval process.Utah is considereda top-tier state for solar developmentbecause of its high number of sunny days year-round.#solar #solarfarms #solardevelopment #alternativeenergy #climatechangeBy Tim Fitzpatrick

It is important to note that Maryland has already lost almost half of its farmland over the past 2 generations and will lose more to sea-level rise and saltwater intrusion. "The more appropriate place for solar development is the built environment like large parking lots and commercial buildings. When a parking lot is covered in solar panels, the parking remains. When a roof is covered with solar panels, the roof remains functional. When farm fields are covered by solar panels, they cease to be farms."https://lnkd.in/erquD5_y

This is the reality of thye massive solar farms, built to satisfy the green agenda but are everything BUT green! This development will consist 800,000 of solar panels covering an area of approximately 360 hectares (890 acres) of former grazing marsh. The development site is ‘functionally linked’ to the surrounding habitats, and plays a vital role in supporting the species for which the area has been designated. In particular, significant numbers of Brent geese, lapwing and golden plover use the farmland. Marsh harrier breed and feed in the area, and may be displaced by the presence of the solar panels.https://https://lnkd.in/eEYpz3_T

Does this look environmentally friendly to you??? Would you want to live next to this development? What about the wildlife? How do you reclaim the land after 15 years when the panels no longer work? 700,000 acres (over 1000 SQUARE MILES!!) of these useless toxic panels that you cannot recycle.....how much steel, cement and copper wires required? BTW - YOUR tax $$$ are funding this boondongle and the Chinese are more than happy to build and ship these panels to us.....We need to protect our public lands.....this is NOT what they were intended for.#solar #publicland #intermittent #environmentaldestruction #wildlife #wasteofresources

When it comes to eliminating the environmental impacts of site grading for solar, the Nevados All Terrain Tracker is now officially the gold standard. The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality just recognized Nevados (along with partners The D. E. Shaw Group and MYR Group) as gold medal winners at this year’s Governor’s Environmental Excellence Awards for our recently commissioned 170 MW Bartonsville Energy Facility, near Winchester in Northern Virginia. This achievement is thanks to the Nevados All Terrain Tracker, which allows us to fit solar projects to the natural terrain, eliminating mass grading.Grading a site destroys the topsoil and native vegetation and compacts the ground. It leads to increased stormwater runoff. It’s one of the top community concerns about utility-scale solar development.Instead solar can be a cover crop that keeps topsoil in place for another generation. Our All Terrain Trackers make it possible.Virginia and neighboring states in the Appalachian region have some of the toughest regulations for solar development. Choosing the Nevados tracker will give developers a leg up when it comes time for permitting.Check out the news release in the first comment. #TheWorldIsNotFlat #NoMoreGrading #SolarTracker #SolarPower

The idiocy of Robert Jenrick knows no bounds. We need to have solar, wind and wave power to cover all our needs. They are the future and since his party is destroying long term UK farming and animal raising in the land it creates wealth for all.Typical he would rather a foreign company takes all the profits and builds a plant which churns waste into the local area. You have to wonder how much people need to pay their local MP to get them onside?Time to elect an MP who actually wants to help our all the local people to the area, not just a few?#energy#renewableenergy #solarfarms #democracymatters https://lnkd.in/gH4vM2cv

Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Water and Science Michael Brain and Bureau of Reclamation Commissioner Camille Calimlim Touton, together with state and local officials, announced a new initiative to install solar panels over irrigation canals in California, Oregon, and Utah. The Delta-Mendota Canal floating solar project will simultaneously decrease evaporation of critical water supplies and advance clean energy goals. This innovative approach will generate #renewableenergy, reduce #evaporation losses of the canal, increase efficiency of and production from solar panels, create land savings for open space and agricultural use, reduce facility maintenance by mitigating algae and/or aquatic plant growth, and reduce the #carbonfootprint. This project is a major step forward in the fight against climate change and the transition to clean energy.#solarinnovation #USA #cleanenergytransition
