take the sunglasses because we will have partly cloudy skies, a lot of sunshine is coming our way this afternoon. and today is going to feel significantly warmer compared to yesterday. the warming will occur a lot faster and we'll get those temperatures well into the 70s away from the coast, looking at highs across the region today, we're bumping up above average compared to the below average temperatures we had yesterday 70 in oakland, 77 in san jose, 75 in santa rosa. we'll hit about 67 later on this afternoon. reggie, thanks, drew. >> we begin this morning with the protests across the bay area. the last one wrapping up with police firing pepper balls. these gatherings weren't necessarily massive, but they had a huge impact. the chp arrested 38 people tied to the first round of protests yesterday. protesters targeted three locations the golden gate bridge and one location in each direction of eight 8-80 in oakland. frustrated drivers ended up trapped for hours as chp worked to break up the demonstrations. protesters went to extremes to make sure it

lasted as long as possible, linking themselves to cars through tubes and chaining themselves to barrels filled with concrete. it took jackhammers to free them 12 hours after the protests first started. and we are here to see them. another group gathered outside the tesla factory in fremont. all the demonstrations were part of what organizers say is the a15 day of protest. the protest took place on april 15th, which is tax day as a way to cause economic disruption. protests. protesters believe the demonstrations would target those who are helping fund the israel-hamas war. >> is this tesla factory is one of the most productive factories in the state, and so in this area, we wanted to target a big center of production and really cause an impact. a lot of these companies are just thinking about their profits and, unless, unless they're affected, they need pressure. >> protesters who spoke with abc seven say they will continue to make their voices heard.

>> abc seven news spoke with legal experts about possible consequences for these protesters. and you can see this frustrated driver confronting some of them. san jose state university professor greg woods categorized the actions of the golden gate bridge and interstate 880 in oakland as illegal, without the benefit of a license to engage in protest at these particular locations. >> these individuals are engaging in trespass. if we allow those individuals to engage in such disruption without any form of accountability, then we can absolutely expect more of the same in the future. >> five months ago, while president biden was here in san francisco for the apec summit, 80 protesters were arrested on the bay bridge. some of those charges included false imprisonment, refusing to disperse and refusing to comply with a peace officer. however, those charges were dropped. they ended up paying fines. now, as this story broke yesterday

cause significant destruction and casualties. >> the white house is currently pushing for a national security bill to be passed. house speaker mike johnson, who has been preventing the bill from moving through congress, says he wants to break the bill into four separate votes. johnson says the voting should be done this week. the white house is against the idea of breaking up the bill and would like the funding for israel and ukraine to be approved quickly. back to you at the desk, nancy. >> thank you. amanda scott peterson will be back at a san mateo county courtroom virtually today with his new attorneys, the los angeles innocence project took up his case earlier this year. they say they have evidence he was wrongly convicted of killing his pregnant wife, laci, and their unborn son in 2002. he was sentenced to death later then later life in prison. his new legal team wants dna tests and to look at evidence related to a burglary that happened near the

couple's home. three hearings are now scheduled one for today, one in may and then another in june. court is set for nine this morning. a former youth pastor, well known in san jose, is facing multiple sex crime charges. police say the alleged abuse went on for years, starting when the victim was just eight years old, only on abc seven. the suspect's family is responding. abc seven news reporter j.r stone has their message. >> you're looking at images from the web page of brett bymaster, a former san jose youth pastor who is now in jail. bymaster is charged with multiple sex crimes against a minor under the age of 14. >> i'm shocked because, again, they always were uh- bible based talkers, neighbors. >> reacting to court documents that charge bymaster with six counts of a lewd or lascivious act on a child by force, violence, duress, menace and fear. bymaster was a former youth pastor at river church community. he also founded the

healing grove health center. his wife came to his defense when i spoke with her monday night. >> brett is a kind and honest man who has dedicated his life to helping others. this outrageous accusation against my husband are patently false. he is absolutely innocent. i have faith that the truth will ultimately prevail. >> one of bymaster sons, matthew, adopted from sudan 16 years ago, is also defending his father, saying people are coming after him because of the good work he does for the poor. >> they're having their own company now and people are getting mad at them because they're doing good. the community, san jose police say the now adult female was sexually assaulted multiple times by bymaster from the age of eight to the age of 13, and between the years of 2014 and 2018. >> previous allegations also surfaced about bymaster a few years ago, but no charges were filed until now. >> a man cannot go and drop a

services will have on the community. yesterday some san jose city leaders spoke about the need to save critical services at regional medical center of san jose. in february, the center announced the imminent closure of its level two trauma center, stemi services and other cardiac services. the center said that they were just not being utilized enough to outweigh the cost of keeping them open. san jose city council members peter ortiz and domingo candelas both have family members whose lives were saved. regional medical center without access to regional medical center, people like my mom would never have had a second chance. >> this closure signifies more than just the end of services. it represents a loss of hope and support for those who need it most. >> critical services at the center are slated to close in august, but if the board votes to fight the closure today, they'll take the concerns from ems and the community to the department of health services.

live in the studio. gloria rodriguez, abc seven news. >> thanks, gloria. 510 this morning, our exploratorium camera is showing you. we have clear skies above much of the city right now. we do have cloud cover along the coast, and we're watching parts of the north bay again this morning. santa rosa, the only spot right now that has reduced visibility, but not too bad. we're down to two and a half mile, so we do have some patchy fog, but it's not too thick this morning. we'll keep our eyes on that. here's live doppler seven along with satellite high pressure is building in, but we call this type of weather pattern a dirty ridge. and what that means we don't have totally sunny skies underneath this high pressure. you can see high clouds are rotating around this high. and from time to time over the next couple of days, some of these clouds are going to stream into our sky for a mix of sun and clouds. but despite the mixture of sun and clouds, we will start to warm up today. and that heat is going to peak here tomorrow and into thursday. it's looking quite lovely over the next couple of days. here's future

weather this morning by about 9 a.m. we're climbing out of the 40s and we're mainly in the low 50s heading towards lunchtime. it's partly cloudy and we're back into the 60s. this is still where we were yesterday. we warm even more heading into the afternoon. by about 4 p.m. we'll see 70s and many cities today going above average for this time of the year. this evening it's pretty quiet out there and temperatures quite pleasant by about 730 as that sun is setting . most of us are still in the 60s and in the 70s. look at your pollen index. we still have issues with trees. that is running high oak, pine, juniper and cedar and now weeds and mold are at low levels. the big change was weeds. that is now at low levels. that was not apparent last week. wiget the next three days we're warming up nicely under a mixture of sun and clouds, 70s and 80s away from the coast. the next couple of days we'll take a closer look at these highs and also we'll preview that gorgeous weekend forecast for you coming up in about eight minutes. >> drew. thanks. a music

attorney has hinted at suing over trademark infringement. there will be public comment before the board meets with an attorney behind closed doors. live nation, which owns ticketmaster, could face a major lawsuit from the government and madness at the live desk. >> what do we know? >> reggie, the department of justice is expected to file an antitrust lawsuit as soon as next month against live nation entertainment. that's according to the wall street journal. the suit will claim live nation has used its dominance in the industry in a way that undermines competition for live events. it's unclear how specific the other claims will be. both ticketmaster and live nation merged in 2010, despite monopoly concerns since then, the company has faced fraud and price fixing allegations. recently, hundreds of taylor swift fans took the company to court for the botched rollout of irish tour tickets. lawmakers have vowed to investigate this is all a definition of monopoly. >> if you care about the

tearful moment at the draft with a familiar face to the warriors sonia curry. steph curry's mom is also brink's godmother. santa cruz will have to demolish a restaurant on the wharf in order to repair damage from last winter storms. the city says damage to the pier was so bad that they need to tear down dolphin restaurant. it's been at the end of the wharf since 1963. massive swells back in december took out the pilings that support the wharf in order to replace them. the structure above it now has to be demolished. right now. temporary repairs will begin in the coming weeks to stabilize parts of the wharf. permanent repairs are set to begin next fall or winter altogether. >> it's probably going to take in the neighborhood of $2.5 million to fix the damage that is out there. this new federal funding, along with any state funding, can really make up the gap in that and help us deliver the full repair. >> officials hope to have the

repairs completed before more storms. >> governor newsom will be in the bay area today announcing a new climate partnership. it is with norway. the governor will review all the details alongside the crown prince of norway and the country's minister of trade and industry. that is expected to happen at noon. also happening today, a state assembly committee will debate requirements for how decaf coffee is made on new bill. proposal would ban a chemical used by some companies to get the caffeine out of coffee. the epa has banned the chemical from industrial use in products like paint strippers. bill supporters say methylene chloride is a known carcinogen, and many people don't know it's in their drink. >> over 70% of consumers are reach for decaffeinated coffee. are pregnant women or people with health conditions? >> the national coffee association says the bill is unnecessary and there's no justification to ban this chemical in coffee production. if the bill gets passed. the ban would go into effect in early

hours later, at 8 a.m, protesters blocked southbound lanes on the golden gate bridge. then, around 815, another group shut down southbound lanes of 880. here's video of the protest on northbound 880, in the area of embarcadero on fifth avenue, protesters brought huge barrels filled with concrete onto the highway and chained themselves to them. lanes were fully closed for nearly two hours. southbound 880 was closed by activists, who blocked an on ramp and all lanes of traffic. the on ramp and all lanes reopened just before two in the afternoon, and it took nearly five hours to open all lanes of the golden gate bridge, the chp says a combined total of 38 people were arrested. chp officials say the protest was not only inconvenient, it was dangerous attempting to block or shut down a freeway or a state highway to protest is unlawful. >> it's dangerous and it prevents motorists from safely reaching their destinations. the way the traffic was backed up, nobody could go anywhere. you

could not back up. you could not go forward. they were stuck in a location that they couldn't move . >> protesters face a variety of charges, including unlawful assembly, refusal to comply with the lawful order, unlawful stop on a bridge, resisting arrest, false imprisonment and conspiracy. three other big cities dealt with similar demonstrations. in chicago, pro-palestinian protesters blocked the road to terminal one at o'hare airport, and as you can see, some people ended up walking to the terminal to get on their flight. police say they took a number of protesters into custody and here's the scene on wall street filled with protesters. they also blocked lanes on the brooklyn bridge. organizers say they intentionally chose yesterday tax day to send a message that they don't want their tax dollars used to fund arms to israel. >> happening today, a push to save a hospital trauma center in the bay area's largest county. patients say it's essential to east san jose. abc seven news reporter gloria rodriguez joining us live. and gloria, the

fired, according to the chronicle. aramark which runs concession stands at the coliseum, sent a letter to employees stating it's against company policy to speak out about company matters on behalf of aramark. the company then said workers who violate the policy would be subject to possible termination. the a's already announced layoffs ahead of the team's temporary planned move to sacramento next season. aramark runs concessions at multiple major league baseball stadiums. >> the city of san francisco reaches a tentative deal with some of the city's public employee unions, according to the mayor's office. the agreements cover more than half of the city's 36,000 employees. union members still need to ratify the contracts, and the board of supervisors has to approve them. it's unclear how much the new deal will cost the city. san francisco is currently facing a big budget deficit during a mayoral election year. >> new legislation set to crack down even more on illegal

the accuweather headlines today get ready for a warming trend to begin. it's noticeably warmer this afternoon compared to yesterday. this warmth peaks here tomorrow and thursday, where we'll see widespread 70s and 80s for daytime highs away from the coast. the weekend is still looking pleasant, even just slightly cooler, but we have dry conditions, no worries of any storms on saturday or sunday, and we do expect a lot of sunshine both days. high pressure is in control. this ridge is what we call a dirty ridge in the weather world. and what that means. you can see a lot of cloud cover rotating around it. so we won't have totally sunny skies underneath this high. the next couple of days we will have partly cloudy conditions, but we'll still get the warm benefits from that high. today we'll go into the 70s for oakland 73, in palo alto, the same in napa, a very pleasant 72, in san rafael, 76 in concord, the city hitting about 67 degrees. your evening plans, anything outside? it's looking very nice early on. will stay in the 70s, dropping into the 60s by about 7 p.m. and then
